lgbt / queer documentary wedding photographer based in los angeles, california
Documentary photography is my bread and butter. It sustains me. I’m always chasing the candid, the emotional, even the un-noticed everyday details; things that make you do a double take, little moments that make your heart swell.
In my photographs, I’m not just looking for the “pretty”; I’m searching for the story. Who are you? Who are the people around you? How do you want to remember this moment in your life, right now?
I don’t have a degree in photography. In fact, I studied acting, film and writing for years. But I always had a camera in my bag, and it wasn’t long before my photography took over. It wasn’t an abrupt shift. I see my photography work as the interdisciplinary culmination of all my training in human relationships and emotions, told through images.
I’m amped to be a listed vendor with Fearless Photographers, A Practical Wedding, and the Wedding Photojournalists Association. You can see happy reviews of my work here.
I’m also proud to be a mentor with Las Fotos Project.
I’m often asked if I can include film. Yes, I am a hybrid photographer; I work with both digital and film cameras. You can see more answers to frequently asked questions here.
If you’d like to know more, feel free to drop me a line!
These are a few of my favorite things: womanism, Agnes Varda, Big Bud Press, loose leaf tea, wabi-sabi, Nina Simone, "Murder She Wrote," tennis balls lost at twilight, Antonín Dvořák, Les Blank, the taste of cherries, "The Artist's Way," James Baldwin, rainbows, Los Bros Hernandez, bibimbap, making pizza from scratch, dim sum carts, talking Spanglish, learning (always learning) how to play piano.
¡y LAS OTRAS!
Who are las otras? I think it’s a multi-faceted idea: they’re me, my community, my clients, my friends. All of those who exist in liminal spaces.
But specifically, in my photography work, I’ve built up a strong network of women-of-color and non-binary people who are talented, accomplished documentary hybrid photographers in their own right. These are more than your average second-shooters. I pay them more, I work with them the most, and I respect their creative vision tremendously.
My team fluctuates depending on availability, and I’ll gladly tell you more about whoever I’m working with for your wedding celebration.
