I was thrilled to return to New Mexico to capture this wedding. New Mexico: the land of striking colors, bracing clear air, long roads through hushed landscapes. This August wedding was full of New Mexico trademarks that I had not yet experienced in all their glory; things like funny weather (a hot morning followed by a torrential thunderstorm, clearing up just in time for the ceremony), cornhole, shotgunning beers, NM enchiladas with NM sauces, and lots and lots of bolo ties.
Everyone here had a deep reverence for the nature that surrounded us, from the tall trees that surrounded us, to the creek that wrapped around the Log River Ranch; from the birds that flew overhead (which guests could instantly name) to the wildflowers and cacti. I appreciated that instead of throwing confetti or rice, they threw birdseed. And instead of fussing about the rain, everyone embraced it. Sure, there were windbreakers and umbrellas on hand, but also lots of smiles and joy all around. The energy was cooperative. Why would a little thunderstorm stop this wedding? We had towels, and we all had each other. I was only booked for 6 hours, but as the sun went down, I gladly joined them — the spirit of cooperation and tight-knit community compelled me.
