Eliza and Michael - Backyard Socially Distanced Micro-Wedding

Eliza and Michael are so sweet and thoughtful. They found me in 2019, and when they told me about their wedding plans, it all sounded so exciting and sophisticated: a small ceremony in spring 2020, followed by a huge wedding party in fall 2020. Both events would involve local fancy restaurants, since the two of them are super foodies and very well-researched on different kinds of cooking and cuisines. And there would definitely be fancy outfits involved; they both pride themselves on their snappy sense of dress, with Eliza regaling me with anecdotes of her tiny 10-year-old self going to school with matching purses and heels. We had a blast during our engagement session, enthusing about our mutual love of Agnes Varda and Killer of Sheep. I had their wedding days in my planner with lots of hearts around them.

And then Covid-19 happened.

And suddenly, everything was up in the air. Parties were cancelled. Weddings were cancelled. Restaurants were cancelled. Together, we mourned the wedding plans that would not be able to materialize this year, and planned for something… different. Something smaller, less extravagant, but no less loving and thoughtful.

Their wedding day ended up being completely different than what we all envisioned, but the love that they have for each other was not diminished. Rather, it shined like a beacon. Here’s a few images from their fancy distanced wedding in their backyard in Compton, catered by themselves (!) with take-out from Pasjoli and a divine cheesecake from Harriet’s Cheesecake Unlimited:

I’m still dreaming about that cheesecake. (Sweet potato cheesecake!!)

I know I haven’t seen the last of these two — we still have a pencilled-in wedding day in the works. Date TBD. Whenever big catered shindigs are a thing again… ♥
